Finance Lead

Job description


We are looking for a Finance Lead to be our first dedicated Finance Team member. Reporting to the COO, the person in this role will have high visibility across the company and be required to solve the most complex, interesting challenges of a rapidly-scaling startup.


In conjunction with the COO, this role will be responsible for working cross-functionally with all departments to help define Superconductive’s financial plan and provide financial and operational decision support to cross-functional partners as we grow in size and organizational complexity to support our Mission while we simultaneously advance the core Great Expectations open-source product and begin building a SaaS offering.

What You'll Do

  • Play a major role in building and scaling the corporate finance function. Work with our outside accounting firm to implement new processes and improve financial controls to ensure the health and stability of our increasingly complex business

  • Develop and monitor critical financial performance metrics and dashboards. Drive key corporate reporting requirements to the Board of Directors and Steering Committee (e.g. company level KPI tracking, performance to plan, budget vs. actual variance analysis and more)

  • Review corporate tax returns and prepare for COO sign-off

  • Oversee company-wide budgeting and ongoing forecasts

  • Develop and optimize cash forecasting process in close collaboration with operations and accounting

  • Actively contribute to the selection, design and implementation of accounting and planning tools (e.g., Mosaic, NetSuite, Anaplan, Adaptive, etc.)

  • Apply a data-driven analytical approach to influence decision making and support company leadership in evaluating strategic initiatives

  • Be a thought leader in creating and refining processes to drive financial discipline within the organization

  • Build and manage annual and multi-year financial plans that provide critical insight into revenue, burn and run-rate

  • Monitor and report Superconductive’s progress against our financial plans and partner with leaders to intervene and resolve when we stray too far from plan

  • Advise teams on strategic investments, trade-offs and the ROI of critical business decisions

  • Build, guide, manage and mentor a high-performing finance team

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or Accounting preferred

  • 7+ years of progressive and relevant work experience in Corporate Finance/FP&A/Strategic Finance

  • Experience with startup/hyper-growth environment

  • Excellent proficiency in accounting and corporate finance

  • Solid understanding and substantial knowledge of FP&A best practices, including headcount planning, driver-based modeling, budgeting, GAAP accounting, and forecasting

  • Strong financial, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Ability to influence business decisions with effective verbal and written communication, data driven analysis and modeling, and presentation of options and alternatives

  • Strong excel skills and extensive experience developing insightful financial models and quantitative analyses, paired with strong critical thinking and sound business judgment

  • Strong business judgement that makes you comfortable recommending Financial-related courses of action to Superconductive’s leadership

  • Ability to work independently, with acute attention to detail; able to translate big-picture analysis while never losing sight of the finer points

  • Able to see around corners and anticipate future business scenarios, enabling the company to plan for and invest in growth wisely

  • Experience leading, developing, and growing a small team

  • Excited by new challenges and always eager to learn


Stand Out Attributes

  • CPA and/or MBA a plus

  • Expertise in building new processes in an enterprise financial planning system (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan)

  • Facility with GSuite, Expensify.com, Asana, Slack

  • Experience working at a rapidly growing startup or fast paced environment
